Just what the doctor ordered...

A brilliant post on writing and joy here , although I found the link to it on Dayle's journal (see my sidebar if you're not already reading her, and if you're not, what's your problem, people?)

Life's been slow here, fighting a bug that won't die, but I got another story drafted. It was about half done and appeared stalled, but yesterday evening, about the time I should have been dragging my sorry sick ass to bed, it bit me and I wrote 1500 words and finished it.

Of course by that time my body was exhausted but my brain was AWAKE DAMMIT, so I was jarred from sleep at 4 a.m. with a mostly formed plot for an erotic paranormal novella. I probably should have leaped out of bed and started writing, since I was convinced I had the characters' voices and everything, and in the cold light of day (and I do mean cold, my friends-it's finally winter) I've just got the bare outline of a plot. But considering how many projects I've got in the cue already, it's probably just as well I didn't let myself get sucked into another one immediately.

I promise a real, thoughtful update sometime. Then I keep promising that and not following through, don't I?

Fetish Flea Reading...

Come visit the world where I sometimes play, and hear me and several other fabulous women read their erotic work at the Fetish Fair Fleamarket, to be held in Danvers, MA the weekend of Jan. 26-28. The reading is on Sunday the 28th at 11:30. Hear some great erotica. Buy something to spice up your private life or tiptoe into a workshop on some intriguing subject. Learn just how great some people look in leather and vinyl--and how appalling others do.

Seriously, the Fetish Fair Fleamarket is a great community event. For one, it's about sex, and kinky sex at that. What's not to like? It's also raises money for an organization called La Red (http://www.thenetworklared.org/), which works to end domestic violence within the lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities, and for the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom, which, as an erotica writer and a person who isn't exactly Ms. White Picket Fence (although I wouldn't mind a white picket fence to surround my garden) is a cause I definitely support. So use me as an excuse and check it out.

random bites of writing-related info

Interested in reading a whole group of articulate, interesting women writing about writing about sex and love? Check out the new Cheek/BL group author blog, http://www.lustbites.blogspot.com/.

There's a great review of Cat Scratch Fever up on this site. Here's hoping it drives many readers to bookstores.

I may be doing a reading at the Boston Fetish Fair Fleamarket the last weekend of this month--details to come.

Today's work included correcting proofs on two stories for an upcoming Black Lace anthology, one mine and one Sophie's and finishing up the draft of Chapter 4 of Out of the Frying Pan. Tomorrow will be another anthology story, and, I hope, some dull but necessary planning and office-cleaning. My office has become a bit of a shambles, and the desk is buried.

And cleaning the desk has become more important now that I once again have a cat who likes to drape on the desk while I work. Not only do I need to make space for this large beast; I also have to clean fur out of the keyboard.
